Conference

1st IAST Conference on Philosophy and the Social Sciences: Inequality, Fairness and Markets

June 26–27, 2017

Manufacture des Tabacs, Toulouse, France

Room MS 001-MS 002

"The focus of this conference is on questions about the normative evaluation of economic institutions such as the firm and different kinds of markets.  In particular, we wish to explore how principles of fairness can be used to evaluate economic institutions and how they are related to welfare.  We will examine the question of the fairness of the organization of the firm in terms of shareholders, workers and managers.  We wish to examine the fairness of labor markets and markets in essential goods.  We will do this in a fully interdisciplinary context with philosophers and social scientists.  So the development of the ideas of fairness will be suited to the particular contexts in which it is applied."
