Abstract
This project studies how violence during French Caribbean Slavery shaped the post-abolition trajectories of formerly enslaved families. In this talk, I'll discuss new evidence on: the determinants of violence during Slavery; how extreme violence might have affected formerly enslaved fathers' ability to care for children immediately after Slavery ended; persistent effects 40 years after Slavery ended.
