Room Amphiteater Cujas
Abstract: Protestant church courts in southern France sought to control women’s lives with an extremely strict moral code. Their records reveal more than just vivid tales of marital quarrels, illegitimate pregnancies, rape, fights and malicious gossip, says historian and TV presenter Suzannah Lipscomb. Ironically, they also highlight the courageous and vocal struggle of everyday women confronted by all the powers of 16th-century society, stacked up to pass God’s judgment upon them.
Location: The lecture will take place in the Cujas Amphitheater (anciennes facultés) of the Toulouse Capitole University, 2 rue des Puits Creusés.
Public lecture in English open to all!
